LILLIAN NGALA
HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR – DIAMOND TRUST BANK (DTB)
In Kenya’s corporate space, few names resonate as strongly in the people and culture space leadership as Lillian Ngala. With nearly two decades of experience, Ngala has built a distinguished career leading strategic human resource (HR) functions while advancing leadership development, culture transformation, and organizational effectiveness.

Her professional footprint extends beyond corporate offices and into business mentorship, social impact and networking, and thought leadership – earning her a reputation as one of Kenya’s most influential and powerful modern-day women leaders. In conferences and seminars, Ngala is always inundated with an armada of colleagues and admirers around, all waiting to catch a glimpse of her attention, as she radiates and works the room, providing leadership beyond the corporate sector.
In a career path deliberately rooted in strategy and impact, Ngala’s transformational leadership is best reflected by her uncanny ability to adapt, lead, and deliver value in all situations and across diverse sectors and environments. From early roles in talent acquisition and policy development to her current position as Director of Human Resources at Diamond Trust Bank (DTB), she has consistently focused on aligning people with business strategy.

Always ahead of the game, her HR approach goes beyond transactional management. She positions talent as a key driver of growth, placing employee development and well-being at the centre of organizational strategy. Ngala’s leadership style integrates strategic foresight with a deep understanding of workplace dynamics and employee engagement.

Her educational background reinforces her strong professional foundation. Ngala holds an MBA degree in Strategic Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, and a Postgraduate Diploma in HR Management from the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM). She is a Certified Executive Leadership Coach, a qualification that strengthens her work in guiding current and future leaders.
While Ngala’s role at DTB re-mains a key part of her profession-al identity, her influence extends into industry-wide and national leadership. She has served on several boards, including the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM); Kenya Institute of Bankers; Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC) and at the National Industrial Training Institute.

Ngala is a prolific writer, who has contributed articles to HR Today, serving on its Editorial Board as the African Representative, where she advocates for the incorporation of African insights and experiences into global HR conversation space.
In 2023, Ngala founded the Lillian Ngala Network (LNN) – a professional community aimed at providing structured mentorship, knowledge exchange, and leader-ship development at both the local and national levels. The LNN is built around three pillars: Nurture, Transform, and Impact.
LNN has quickly gained traction across industries and sectors, attracting professionals from different levels and disciplines. Through career coaching sessions, leadership forums, people and culture clinics, and networking events, LNN has become a dynamic hub for personal and professional growth and at the individual and corporate levels.

Ngala’s motivation for founding LNN stemmed from years of informal mentorship and a desire to create a structured space where professionals could access guidance, learn from peers, and build meaningful connections.
Ngala’s commitment to impactful community development is equally significant. Through the Lillian Ngala Foundation (LNF) she leads programs that serve underrepresented and vulnerable groups in society. Key focus areas include supporting persons with disabilities; building homes for the very needy and marginalized widows; providing scholarships for underprivileged children and mentoring and empowering the youth in marginalized area.

This work reflects her belief that leadership should extend beyond the workplace and contribute to addressing broader societal challenges.
Ngala’s leadership philosophy is anchored on “3 Cs”, character, courage, and clarity: character represents leading with integrity and building trust through actions; courage in making bold decisions and standing behind them and, clarity – remaining focused on her mission and values.
This philosophy shapes how she leads, communicates, mentors and relates with everybody. Ngala re-minds young and emerging leaders in a straightforward way: “Don’t just collect business cards. Follow up. Connect meaningfully. What you’re seeking is also seeking you.”
Ngala’s leadership has earned her both national and international recognition. Notable accolades include:Top 50 Influential Women in Kenya (2025); Top 50 HR Leaders in Africa (2022); Top 20 Disruptive People Leaders in Kenya (2023); Top LinkedIn Creator in HR (2024 & 2025) and Industry Icon of the Year (2023).
She is a frequent contributor to media platforms, including appearances on Citizen TV, NTV, KBC, Switch TV, Voice of America, and in publications such as Business Daily Africa and the Daily Nation newspaper. Through these platforms, she continues to shape public discourse on leadership, talent development, inclusive and safe workplaces.

Ngala’s impact is today being felt across corporate boardrooms, mentorship sessions, community programs, and thought leadership platforms in business and professional conferences. Her work reflects a clear purpose: to cultivate leaders, build communities, and drive change through people-centered strategies.
