JENNIFER PADAYATCHY

HR DIRECTOR BEIERSDORF – AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Jennifer Padayatchy, Human Resource Director for Africa and the Middle East at Beiersdorf, is a seasoned HR executive who has 20 years shaping talent strategies and driving organizational effectiveness across the African continent. Her career reflects a rare combination of operational depth, strategic foresight, and a consistent commitment to developing people within dynamic, multicultural environments.

Jennifer considers her role as a passionate family person – married with two children – Macsen and Amelia, before that of an HR professional. Outside of her demanding professional life, she aims to be a present parent. In her spare time, she enjoys long outdoor walks as well as an intimate meal with a friend. She values one to one connection.

A graduate of the University of Mauritius with a Bachelor of Science in Management, Jennifer began her HR journey in 2005 in her home country. Earlier on in her career, she took on a cross-border role at British American Tobacco (BAT), becoming HR Business Partner for the West Africa Zone based in Senegal. There, she supported HR operations across 21 countries, where she introduced global standards in talent development, reward frameworks, and learning systems. She also acted as interim Head of HR during a critical business turnaround, which resulted in remarkable growth for the cluster.

In 2008, Jennifer moved to BAT Kenya as HR Business Partner for Marketing in the East Africa Zone. Her work focused on aligning HR functions with the broader business agenda across five countries. She played a central role in driving organizational change initiatives, leading to improved employee engagement and stronger market outcomes.

Her responsibilities expanded further in 2010 when she was promoted to HR Business Partner for Commercial in East and Central Africa. Over the next two years, she led HR functions across 17 countries, including integrating the Democratic Republic of Congo into the business’s regional structure. She prioritized talent pipeline development and corporate employer branding, enhancing BAT’s competitiveness in attracting and retaining skilled professionals.

In 2012, Jennifer took on a broader leadership role as Area Head of Talent and Organizational Effectiveness for East and Central Africa. Managing HR strategy across 16 countries, she introduced frameworks for succession planning, leadership development, and organization design. Her approach emphasized performance calibration and learning agility to keep pace with changing business needs.

Two years later, in 2014, she was appointed Head of HR at BAT Algeria, where she managed both internal staff and third-party contractors. Under her leadership, the business experienced commercial and cultural transformation. A notable achievement included a 13-point rise in employee engagement.

Her success in Algeria set the stage for an even broader role in 2015, when she became Head of HR for the North Africa Area, covering six countries. Reporting directly to the Area Director, Jennifer played a pivotal role in guiding the HR function through a period of financial recovery, steering the business from losses to break-even. She also led HR due diligence for a strategic acquisition in Sudan, ensuring alignment in systems, processes, and people integration.

In 2017, Jennifer joined BAT’s global HR transformation initiative, Programme Aurora, as the Regional Change and Training Lead. She was responsible for the Change and Communications workstream across 90 countries spanning Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. She led change management, training, and stakeholder engagement, playing a critical role in building readiness and capability across local teams while aligning global objectives with regional realities.

After 13 years at BAT, Jennifer made a bold career move into a different industry – purpose-led student accommodation with Acorn Holdings Limited as the HR Director. At Acorn, Jennifer set up a strong foundation for a newly formed HR function, supporting the scale-up of the business. The focus revolved around building a customer focused organization whilst ensuring strong governance around people processes.

In 2021, Jennifer joined Beiersdorf, a leading global skin care company, with more than 170 affiliates worldwide with iconic brands like NIVEA, Eucerin and La Prairie. Jennifer deeply enjoys Beiersdorf CARE culture. She states, ‘At Beiersdorf, CARE comes to life in many ways. Not only in skin care, but also in what is important in life: we care about skin, about people and beyond. To take it to an even higher level we aim to leave the world a better place for future generations.’ Jennifer felt inspired by meaningful work for a company with a clearly lived purpose and the commitment to an ambitious sustainability agenda. Jennifer started with Beiersdorf as the HR Director for Central East and West Africa. In this role, she led major business transformations whilst driving excellence in the execution of people processes. Today, Jennifer leads the HR agenda for the Africa Middle East Cluster at Beiersdorf, a role that demands both agility and vision. In a region marked by rapid change and immense opportunity, she has focused on talent development, specifically only accelerating the representation of nationals from Africa Middle East in the group.

One of her most impactful contributions has been the launch of the “Kukimi” Talent Program. Designed to identify, nurture, and elevate high-potential employees, the program blends global mentorship, leadership coaching, and impactful business projects. It reflects Jennifer’s belief that regional talent can thrive on a global stage with the right support and exposure.

The program culminated in a leadership workshop at Beiersdorf’s global headquarters in Hamburg, where participants engaged with senior executives and expanded their networks. Jennifer considers Kukimi a strategic lever for inclusive leadership, bridging local capability with global opportunities and reinforcing Beiersdorf’s commitment to people development.

From her early career in Mauritius to her regional leadership roles across Africa, Jennifer Padayatchy has continuously championed the power of human capital to drive sustainable business growth. Her work stands as a blueprint for how HR, when practiced with integrity and foresight, can transform organizations and uplift people across borders.

Her recognition as one of the Top 25 Changemakers in People and Culture 2025 is a well-earned acknowledgment of a career marked by innovation, resilience, and impact.
