KEVIN OCHIENG
GENERAL MANAGER MARKETING – ISUZU EAST AFRICA
According to Kevin Ochieng, one of the most experienced marketing general managers in blue-chip companies in East Africa, he is always eager to learn and grow in the dynamic and competitive automotive industry. And competitive, the Automotive industry in East Africa is.
From local assembly from completely knocked down kits (CKD) to Semi-knocked Down Kits (SKD) through to second -hand vehicles and pre-used vehicles from a plethora of global sources, both legal and illegal, the competition is cut-throat.
Ochieng states authoritatively that, ‘’ in the automotive industry, momentum is everything. Markets shift, customer expectations evolve, and motor vehicle brands must continuously reaffirm their relevance. For Kevin Ochieng, navigating this landscape is not just a function of the role — it is the essence of his work.

As General Manager Marketing at Isuzu East Africa, now for over six years, Kevin previously served as the marketing manager for General Motors East Africa, before the rebrand to Isuzu East Africa following a change in ownership.
His role is both strategic and operational, requiring a steady hand on long-term vision while ensuring day-to-day sales alignment across campaigns, teams, and markets, he adds with nostalgia, although with a humble yet professional demeanor.
Kevin’s journey into the C-Suite in the marketing leadership is grounded in structured training and practical execution. A graduate of Moi University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, he boasts of immense marketing experience across market research, customer insights, brand management, digital marketing, and media relations, first at GMEA and currently with Isuzu EA.
These disciplines are not abstract concepts in his portfolio — they are working tools. At Isuzu East Africa, they have translated into tangible outcomes: launching new products, expanding into new markets, and strengthening customer satisfaction and loyalty. Through these initiatives, he has contributed to the growth, profitability and market leadership of the Isuzu commercial vehicles brand in East and Central Africa.
Kevin shares that his leadership in the marketing function at Isuzu East Africa demands more than creativity. “It requires reading markets accurately, understanding consumer behaviour, market analytics, including the alternatives available and aligning all these in reports and messaging, including branding, to be at par with the business performance expectations and metrics. It is a balance Kevin has cultivated over time. “I have developed strong skills in marketing research, customer insights, brand management, digital marketing, and media relations,” he opines.
Kevin’s most defining moment was during the transition of this giant motor vehicle manufacturer in East and Central Africa. While serving as the Marketing Manager for General Motors East Africa, he had to ensure a seamless support and transition during the rebranding of the company to Isuzu East Africa.

Rebranding is more than a change of name — it is a shift in identity, positioning, and market perception. Supporting that transition placed Kevin at the heart and intersection of a significant organisational evolution. It required continuity, clarity, and collaboration, qualities that continue to define his leadership approach today. He adds, “My core competencies include leadership, communication, innovation, and collaboration.”
At the core of Kevin’s professional narrative is a clear sense of purpose. He speaks consistently about delivering value — not only to customers, but also to other stakeholders and the community Isuzu East Africa does business in. In a competitive automotive environment, where performance and precision are paramount, that broader perspective shapes how strategy is conceived and executed. Kevin leads with purpose. His leadership style emphasizes innovation and teamwork. Marketing, in his view, is not a siloed function but a collaborative engine that connects product, brand, and customer experience. It is this integrated approach that enables sustainable growth rather than short-term wins.
The automotive sector is defined by change — new technologies, shifting consumer needs, and evolving competitive dynamics. Kevin embraces that environment. He describes himself as eager to learn and grow, recognizing that sustained relevance requires continuous development. In a nutshell, Kevin has grown in the automotive industry in Kenya, with all its dynamics while managing to remain focused with one employer.

His affiliation with The Chartered Institute of Marketing-CIM, the professional body of marketers, with head offices in the United Kingdom, reflects that commitment to professional excellence, growth and structured marketing execution. It reinforces a leadership philosophy anchored in humility, discipline and adaptability.
From supporting a major corporate rebrand to leading marketing strategy for Isuzu East Africa, Kevin Ochieng’s career reflects consistency of all the strategic dimensions. His daily work blends analytical insight with brand stewardship, operational execution with long-term positioning.
In a market where strength is measured not only by vehicles on the road, but by trust in the brand behind them, and the aftersales service available to guarantee peace of mind to the commercial vehicle owners, Kevin remains clear in his mind: help the top team to win by numbers of Isuzu Commercial vehicles on the roads.
For Kevin, the journey is ongoing — shaped by employer and brand loyalty, marketing leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and an enduring commitment to value creation in a competitive industry, while remaining loyal to a fault to the Isuzu brand of commercial vehicles in East Africa. He is man to watch as Isuzu East Africa executes its future succession planning- for Kevin Ochieng is emotional intelligent and mature EQ, hence a rare find CEO material.
