To ensure the issue remains topical for at least one year, we have covered the 2024 and 2025 models of the respective cars.
The 30 cars are not merely a round-up of fast machines and body aerodynamics. In assembling this list, our editorial team visited and mixed with car enthusiasts and aspiring car buyers along the major roads in Nairobi that consist the main markets for potential car buyers looking for bargains and who also form the main bloodline of the banking and insurance industries, not to mention the thousand of jobs created by this informal artery of the country’s economy.
Both sides of Kiambu and Langata Road sides displays provided the theatre enabling our team apply a set of criteria to provide a balanced and well-thought-out selection. Design and appearance were a paramount concern: how a car looks at first glance, its proportions, its use of material, and its uniqueness on the road. Creativity mattered. Cars that feature the most advanced technology, eco-solutions, or futuristic concepts performed best. We also factored in performance, but not so much in terms of flat-out speed; we factored in driving dynamics, handling, and how well the car can make the driver a part of the road.
We also scanned through the social media. Some cars made it to this list not so much due to their details, but due to the manner by which they caused a stir, trended on social media, or represented deep shifts in what buyers and enthusiasts preferred. Finally, we factored in exclusivity and lust, those rare models that handle like rolling works of art, either low-volume rollouts or coach-built marvels.
