LYNETTE GITOBU
FORMER HEAD OF TALENT ENGAGEMENT DIAGEO AFRICA
Lynette Gitobu’s journey is rooted in values, shaped by resilience, and defined by a purpose to uplift others. Most recently, she served as the Head of Talent Engagement at Diageo Africa, a role in which she led multi-country teams across East, South, West, and Central Africa, driving talent acquisition, employer branding and succession planning for one of the world’s leading beverage companies. Her leadership, however, is not just about systems or structures it’s deeply human, grounded in her belief that people are at the heart of every thriving business.
Lynette was born into a large, close-knit family of educators. Her parents, both teachers, instilled in their children values of kindness, humility, integrity, responsibility, resilience and a deep sense of community service virtues that continue to shape her personal and professional ethos.
Her career began at Kenya Commercial Bank, where she held various roles that introduced her to core HR principles and practices. Inspired by her early exposure to the human side of business, she pursued a degree in Human Resources at Kenyatta University, later complementing it with a Masters in HR from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University.

In 2010, Lynette joined East African Breweries Limited (EABL), a Diageo subsidiary, and began a rich chapter of growth and impact. She served in various capacities from HR Business Partner across supply chain, sales and marketing, to Leadership Development Manager consistently aligning people strategies with business priorities. Her work led to recognition both locally and globally: under her leadership, EABL was named Best Employer in Learning & Development by the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) in 2018 and 2019, and in 2021, her team was recognized globally at the HR Heroes Awards for championing continuous learning during the pandemic.
In her current role at Diageo Africa, Lynette’s mandate goes beyond recruitment. She is building sustainable systems that balance speed with quality, diversity with depth, and culture with capability. One of her signature achievements has been the launch of the Pan-African Future Leaders Programme, a strategic initiative designed to attract, develop, and retain emerging, diverse talent across the continent. She also played a key role in setting up a new Hub for Diageo driving efficiencies that delivered notable success in time and quality of hires, even in challenging and unfamiliar talent markets.
But Lynette is perhaps most proud of her work in Inclusion & Diversity, where she has served as Diageo Africa’s I&D Lead. Over the past three years, she has led efforts that resulted in a consistent year-on-year increase in female representation. She has also forged partnerships with disability-focused organizations to make Diageo a disability-confident employer, creating employment pathways for underrepresented groups. Her work is guided by the belief that everyone brings a unique perspective to the table, and that no one has the same life footprint.
Beyond corporate leadership, Lynette is a certified executive coach through Erickson International. Her coaching philosophy is simple yet profound: to create a safe, unbiased space where individuals can reflect deeply and craft solutions that are aligned with their purpose. She credits her own mentors and coaches with helping her grow and now pays it forward by mentoring others especially emerging women leaders across Africa.
Lynette also challenges the traditional view of career progression. “Careers don’t need to follow a straight line,” she says. “Linear paths can build depth, but lateral moves and diverse roles build perspective, adaptability, and influence.” Her own journey marked by both strategic pivots and purposeful leaps is a testament to that.
Across her two-decade career, Lynette has remained committed to one central purpose: to enrich the lives of those around her. Whether she’s shaping policy at a global table, mentoring a young professional, or designing systems that ensure fair and inclusive hiring, her work is infused with clarity of intent, deep empathy, and an unshakeable sense of values.

In a world where the workplace is rapidly evolving, Lynette Gitobu stands out as a people-first leader one who doesn’t just manage change but enables transformation. Her story reminds us that leadership is not just about results, but about relationships, resilience, and the responsibility to uplift others.
Outside of work, Lynette is a dedicated fitness enthusiast who begins most of her mornings with a workout a habit that reinforces her discipline, clarity, and energy. Her personal development journey is also shaped by books that have left a lasting impact, including The Leader Without a Title by Robin Sharma and The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, both of which have informed her servant leadership style and values-based decision-making.
She draws enduring inspiration from her father, who embodies hard work, service to community, love for God and family, and a conscious commitment to keeping loved ones connected. His values continue to shape the way she leads, lives, and serves.
