EVELYNE VOSEVWA

GROUP HEAD PEOPLE AND CULTURE – RUBIS ENERGY KENYA

Leading with Purpose, People, and Resilience

For Evelyne Vosevwa, leadership begins with faith, family, and an unwavering belief in people.  A wife and mother of two — a 14-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son — Evelyne credits her supportive husband and her relationship with God as the foundation of her life and career.

Born and raised in Shikangania, a small village in Kakamega County, she grew up as one of nine siblings in a modest two-bedroom home. Her parents worked tirelessly to provide, with her mother balancing a career as a primary school teacher with peasant farming to feed the family. Evelyne vividly recalls her mother’s early mornings milking cows before heading to teach — a daily act of resilience that became a lasting influence.

Life in a large household taught her empathy, fairness, and resourcefulness. “De-spite the little we had, my parents ensured each of us felt valued, supported, and given equal opportunity in education,” she re-calls. These lessons remain central to her leadership philosophy today.

Her academic journey began at Lurambi Primary School and continued at St. Brigid’s Girls, Kitale, where she served as a prefect and developed a love for consistency and connection—traits that would shape her career. Evelyne earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Finance and Accounting) from Kenya Methodist University but soon realized her calling lay in the human side of business. She pursued a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Kenya Institute of Management, later to an Executive MBA from the Management University of Africa.

Her growth as a leader was further shaped by global executive education: the Senior Management Leadership Program at Strathmore University and Nanyang Business School in Singapore, the Advanced Management Program at IESE Business School in Spain, and the Be-yond AMP program at CEIBS in China. She also earned an Executive Coaching Diploma from the UK’s Academy of Executive Coaching — an investment that deepened her capacity to facilitate transformation in individuals and teams.

With more than 17 years of HR leadership experience across East and Southern Africa, Evelyne has served in senior roles at Micato Safaris, Kenchic Limited (APDL Group), DL Group of Companies, and now Rubis Energy Kenya. Her career trajectory includes a defining moment at age 32, when she became the only woman in the Kenchic executive team, leading the people function across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia. Since 2022, Evelyne has served as Group Head of People & Culture at Rubis Energy Kenya, overseeing six countries: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Zambia.

Following Rubis’s acquisition of KenolKobil and Gulf Energy, she was tasked with integrating and transforming the group’s people strategy under the vision of “enabling an inclusive, agile workforce to thrive and drive sustainable growth.” Her mandate blends strategic thinking, talent development, and cultural transformation, ensuring People and Culture is central to business growth.

Beyond the boardroom, Evelyne is an avid safari enthusiast, finding renewal in the wild landscapes of the Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, and the Serengeti — often taking the wheel herself on long drives. She is also a passionate advocate for education, personally sponsoring the schooling of over ten needy children, with one already in their third year of university. “Education is a powerful equalizer,” she says. “It opens doors that transform lives.” Her leadership philosophy rests on timeless principles: lead yourself first with clarity and emotional intelligence; favour consistency over intensity; treat empathy as essential; value feedback as a growth tool; and cultivate psychological safety so teams can perform at their best.

From a small village in Kakamega to a regional leadership role in one of East Africa’s major energy companies, Evelyne’s journey is a testament to resilience, continuous learning, and the transformative pow-er of purpose-driven leadership; a life-long commitment to people and culture.
