Mohamud Mohamed Salat is the group CEO of Hass Petroleum Group since January 2020, a leading regional oil marketing company with presence in 10 African Countries. Hass Petroleum Group has its headquarter in Dubai, UAE. The group is proudly Kenyan and employs over 1,600 employees across the region.

Hass Oil sub-Saharan Africa market foot prints include a 9% of the headquarters Kenya market, another 9% in the emerging market of Mozambique and 82% aggregate in the DRC, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Salat is a seasoned professional, with over two-decades of post-qualification experience in prudent financial management, strategy development, financial risk, enterprise risk management, human capital development, internal and external audit and assurance, and accounting, in addition to other soft skills. Prior to his current role as Group CEO, Salat served between November 2014 and January 2020 as the Group’s CFO and Head of Internal Audit. As the CFO, Salat was responsible for the implementation of the group’s financial strategy, including but not limited to the attainment of set profitability, prudent financial management, proactive risk management through the strengthening of the control management, optimization of company resources, treasury management and human resource capacity building for the finance department. Salat also served as the Hass Petroleum Group Head of Internal Audit from March 2013 to November 2014.

Before joining Hass Petroleum Group, Salat’s tour of duty included as a Senior Audit and Advisor, Fragile and Conflicted States at KPMG Kenya, from 2008 to February 2013. KPMG is one of the world’s leading providers of audit, tax and advisory services, operating in over 150 countries and have 138,000 people in all member firms around the globe and more than 7,900 partners.

Salat is passionate in giving back to the communities and is active in voluntary and other national and corporate governance roles. He has served as the national treasurer at the Kenya Red Cross, seating on its National Executive Committee from 2013 to 2025. Equally, he Chairs the Board Trustees of Takaful Umbrella Fund – the first shariah compliant pension scheme in Kenya. He has also served in several other strategic on various aspects of humanity.

His contribution to the country and the region has been recognized and celebrated in different forums. He was recently proposed as 2025 national hero by the National Heroes Council. In 2024, he was feted among the Top 40 Under 40 men by the leading Business Daily Africa newspaper, as well as 100 most influential and inspirational Kenya Muslim leader in the year 2021 by The Muslim Media (TMM).  

Mohamud Salat holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi (UoN) – (2004-2008) and a MA Economics degree in Economics (2010-2011) from the same university. He earlier studied accounting – CPA (K)at the Vision Institute of Professionals between 2005 and 2007.

According to friends and peers, quoting posts on LinkedIn, Salat is regarded as a true pace-setter and an inspirational leader currently redefining the energy sector. From humble beginnings in finance, Salat has become one of sub-Saharan Africa’s oil marketing trade kings, with his transformational leadership style propelling the Hass Petroleum Group to new horizons.
