MP SHAH

Initially referred to as Parklands Nursing Home, Meghji Pethraj (MP) Shah Hospital was founded in 1928 by distinguished humanitarians with the objective of bringing down human suffering in the community. Quality care, compassionate service and inclusivity are the themes on which MP Shah’s vision was born. Gradually, this vision has expanded from a community nursing home to the trailblazing medical hub that MP Shah is today.

A multi-specialty hospital covering every segment of medicine, MP Shah is one of the most respected and established institutions in Kenya providing professional medical, nursing and rehabilitative care. It consists of world class facilities that offer specialised inpatient and outpatient services. These hubs include, Cardiac Centre, Cancer Care Centre, Renal Unit, Neuroscience Centre, Diabetes Centre, Gastrointestinal Centre, Hip and Joint Replacement Centre, Women’s Health Centre, Eye and Laser Centre, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Centre, Respiratory Centre, Paediatric Centre, Radiology and Imaging Centre, Dental Centre, and Wellness Centre.

A contemporary 286-bed institution, the hospital is recognized as a national referral facility, with ISO 9001:2015 quality management certification. Additionally, it is affiliated with the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA), an independent body that fosters postgraduate education in surgery and provides surgical training.

Devoted to technological innovation, MP Shah has also developed a system which monitors the turn-around time (TAT) for preparing patients’ rooms. This enables the hospital to identify delays and address them in the shortest time possible, as well as improves the efficiency with which specific tasks are completed. For this achievement, the hospital was feted at the 13th edition of the Africa CIO100 Awards in November 2021. The annual prestigious award labelled the ‘Biggest Tech Event in Africa’ celebrates organisations that use technology to deliver customer value.

MP Shah, through the years, continuously expands its facilities for patients. A customer-obsessed brand, it strives to improve patients’ experience by realigning the technological processes and medical services.

For instance, in February 2022, MP Shah launched the KPJ Medical Centre, an eight-storey tower located at the main hospital which brought an additional 68 beds to the hospital. By increasing capacity, the new centre serves to lower the increasing demand for healthcare services. It is home to dedicated maternity wards and a theatre for the same, which has served to double the amount of maternity patients the hospital can take in.

Also incorporated in the KPJ Medical Centre is the Shri Abhey Oswal Children’s Cancer Support Clinic, which MP Shah unveiled in February 2023. Located on the 7th floor of the centre, the cancer clinic has the capacity to diagnose and treat 100 children a month, while integrating the latest advances in the fight against cancer. Diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders such as anaemia is also offered. Additionally, the facility provides ambulatory chemotherapy treatment services. The children’s cancer centre employs cutting-edge technology, appropriately paired with unique treatments protocols which jointly aid in the provision of adequate diagnostic and clinical care support to the children.

The KPJ Medical Centre additionally hosts a progressive physiotherapy centre, which is set to be a nexus for sports medicine, neurology and other speciality clinics.

Besides the main hospital, MP Shah has two satellite units: Dinshaw Byramjee Dispensary and Dental Unit, and Village Medical Centre.

Relaunched in February 2023 along Ronald Ngala Street, Nairobi, Dinshaw Byramjee Dispensary and Dental Unit serves to reinforce access to primary care within the country’s Central Business District (CBD), as well as provide affordable healthcare to its surrounding middle to low-income population. It provides Dental, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Ophthalmology, and Diabetic Care services. The dispensary was initially established in 2017, and was located along Uyoma Street in Nairobi.

Village Medical Centre was established in 2018 to serve a broader range of  patients, as well as extend more convenient access to medical services and care. The facility provides services in Pharmacy, Radiology, Laboratory, Specialty Clinics, Dental and Daycare Theatres. It is located at The Village Market Mall, along Limuru Road.

MP Shah is under the aegis of the Social Service League, a non-racial, non-religious, non-political charitable institution in Nairobi. Guided by the values of the league, as well as the stupendous leadership brought on by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Toseef Din, MP Shah is poised to continue providing excellence, as it progresses towards its vision of becoming the premier patient-centric tertiary institution in East and Central Africa.
