QUICKMART

With an impressive network of 58 stores spread across 14 counties, and a workforce of more than 6,000, Quickmart has solidified its position as the second largest retailer in the country.

The supermarket brand has established a reputation for quality and convenience by prioritising customer obsession, employing cost-effective logistics, implementing product category-specific operations, maintaining an appealing cost structure, and embracing an environmentally and socially conscious approach.

Launched in 2021, Quickmart’s ‘Fresh & Easy’ store concept, which allocates 30 percent of the total items to fresh produce, strongly resonates with customers. Kenya has not been left behind in the global transition to fresh foods over processed alternatives, and therefore the Fresh & Easy concept has heavily contributed to Quickmart’s robust brand perception.

Furthermore, Quickmart has leveraged its deep understanding of the Kenyan market to position itself strategically. By expanding its portfolio of 24-hour operating stores in high footfall locations, particularly in Nairobi, Quickmart capitalises on urban consumption patterns, ensuring accessibility and convenience for its customers.

Additionally, Quickmart has embraced digital transformation and seamlessly integrated its home delivery service, further enhancing its presence in the e-commerce segment.

To recognise and appreciate its customers, Quickmart has developed a formidable loyalty and rewards program. The program, which earns redeemable points each time a registered user shops, offers exclusive discounts and personalised offers. In turn, this fosters a long-term relationship where the customers feel valued.

Moreover, Quickmart goes the extra mile to provide exceptional customer service. The brand invests in training their staff to be knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive to customer inquiries and concerns. It also offers multiple channels for customer support, including phone, email and social media, ensuring that customers can easily reach out for assistance whenever needed.

It is worthy to note that Quickmart extends its retail services to corporate institutions as well. Subject to quantity of goods ordered, corporate customers are entitled to special discounts and free delivery. Additionally, corporate customers may choose their most convenient payment mode, including through cheque and electronic funds transfer (EFT), among others. They also receive round-the-clock customer service with same day delivery and order fulfilment, and can email their orders from the comfort of their office.

The history of Quickmart is both humbling and inspiring. Its success story began in 2006, when the late John Kinuthia established Quickmart as a family business on the outskirts of Nakuru. In 2010, his son Duncan Kinuthia assumed leadership, and under his guidance, Quickmart experienced steady growth, expanding to four stores by 2014.

However, it was Peter Kang’iri, a renowned retail management consultant, who propelled Quickmart to new heights. Joining the company as a leading consultant, Peter’s expertise and strategic insights fueled its expansion, enabling the business to flourish and reach 11 stores by 2018.

During this period, Peter’s affiliation with Tumaini Supermarkets proved instrumental in attracting investment from Adenia Partners, a prominent Mauritius-based private equity firm specialising in sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership led to a merger between Tumaini Supermarkets and Quickmart in 2019, catapulting the newly formed entity to become Kenya’s second largest supermarket retailer.

Peter Kang’iri assumed the role of Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and with him, brought a seasoned management team onboard.

The company’s growth has been characterised by strategic acquisitions and a commitment to responsible expansion. Following the merger, Quickmart procured stores previously held by retail brands which were no longer in operation such as Tuskys, Choppies, and Mulleys, consolidating its market presence.

Quickmart’s success extends beyond its business performance, as it has garnered recognition for its achievements. In 2022, Financial Times (FT) ranked Quickmart as one of Africa’s fastest-growing companies, emphasising its revenue growth, business expansion and employee growth. Similarly, Quickmart was included among the Top 25 Most Transformative Corporate Brands Impacting Business in 2022, by Business Monthly EA.

Driven by an ambition to become Kenya’s largest retailer, Quickmart constantly strives to exceed expectations. The retail giant’s commitment to exceptional management practices, understanding of market dynamics, and world class customer service, position Quickmart  favourably for long-term success. From the moment customers set foot inside its doors, they are greeted with an atmosphere of unparalleled warmth and genuine care. As a trusted household name in Kenya, Quickmart has become a beacon of success in the supermarket retail industry.

Quickmart is a shining example of a customer-obsessed brand, accelerating its success to new heights and paving the way for an exceptionally bright future for a homegrown brand.
