In 2022, under the board guidance of Manoj, MP Shah Hospital took large steps towards actualising its vision of becoming the premier patient-centred tertiary healthcare institution in East and Central Africa.

In February 2022, the hospital opened a new facility named the KPJ Medical Centre as part of its strategic plan to transform health care over the next 10 years. The KPJ Medical Centre has eight floors and is equipped with 68 beds, grossly boosting MP Shah Hospital’s capacity. The medical centre holds dedicated maternity wards, a maternity theatre and a modern physiotherapy centre that is sure to be a hub for sports medicine, neurology and other speciality clinics.

Furthermore, on the seventh floor of the KPJ Medical Centre lies the Shri Abhey Oswal Children’s Cancer Support Clinic, which was launched in April 2022. The children’s cancer clinic has the capacity to treat 100 children a month, incorporating the latest advances in the fight against cancer. It also caters to children suffering from non-cancerous blood diseases like anaemia. In addition to diagnosis and treatment, the clinic provides ambulatory chemotherapy treatment services. It comprises an inpatient ward with a day oncology unit, an outpatient clinic area, a dedicated oncology pharmacy, and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.

In March 2022, MP Shah Hospital staff members were honoured with the highly desired Global Distinguished Leadership Award by iChange Nations Global Organisation. This was towards exemplary service to the society, through their patient-centred roles during and post the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya. The iChange Nations Award has been bestowed upon several heads of states and special envoys to foster global peace.

The theme for the Patient Safety Awareness Week in 2022 was ‘Highly Engaged Patient Centric Team for Improved Safety of the Healthcare System: for Patients and the Workforce’. At MP Shah Hospital, the week was celebrated by interdepartmental competitions on international patient safety goals, health talks and training, to advance the knowledge on patient safety, resulting in improved overall healthcare.

Looking to 2023, MP Shah Hospital, led by Dr Manoj Shah, has plans in place towards the development of additional novel specialised clinics and the recruitment of more healthcare professionals in support of the hospital’s growth. The hospital is well on its way to implementing new initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to improve diagnosis and treatment.
