According to Cynthia Otoro, Jambojet’s Director of Sales & Marketing, “Strong brands tell stories that customers recognize as their own.”

In an industry defined by razor-thin margins, shifting consumer behaviour, and rising sustainability expectations, effective leadership demands both commercial precision and human insight. Few executives embody this balance as clearly as Cynthia. Her work has helped reshape affordable air travel across East and Central Africa.

With over a decade of experience spanning agency, corporate, and aviation roles, Cynthia has built a reputation as a revenue growth strategist, brand storyteller, and sustainability advocate, connecting people and markets through purposeful, customer-centric aviation. In her own words, “Affordable air travel is not just about price; it’s about access, dignity, and connection.”

Cynthia’s journey at Jambojet spans more than eight years, during which she has played a central role in transforming the airline’s brand, digital capability, and customer experience. Her leadership has contributed to Jambojet growing its market share to slightly over 52%, a remarkable over 12% increase driven largely by strong brand positioning and creative storytelling. Since she joined Jambojet, her core objective has remained focused on building a brand that flies closer to its customers.

For instance, at the height of uncertainty during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Cynthia conceptualized and led the #NowTravelReady campaign—an initiative that redefined travel confidence in a changed world. The campaign resonated deeply with consumers and industry peers alike, earning the concept Digital Brand of the Year, Best Brand During Covid, and runner-up recognition for Best Influencer Marketing Campaign of the Year at the Digital Media Awards 2021. To Cynthia then and now, “When people feel understood, they trust your brand—even in moments of uncertainty.”

In 2023, Cynthia was appointed the Director of Sales and Marketing at Jambojet, expanding her mandate beyond marketing into revenue growth and broader commercial leadership. This evolution reflects her ability to connect brand strategy directly to business performance, a seamless effort of driving commercial strategy beyond marketing.

Under her stewardship, Jambojet has launched new routes, including Zanzibar in the beautiful Indian Ocean, diversified its offering through Jambojet Cargo, and strengthened customer loyalty with Jambojet Rewards, onboarding over 35,000 users in its first year of launch. Each initiative reflects a clear focus on growth, relevance, and long-term profitability.

Her earlier work as Digital Marketing Manager laid the foundation for this success, driving web bookings, improving cost efficiencies, and deepening customer understanding through data-driven segmentation and insight generation. According her strategy then, “Growth comes from listening closely to customers, then acting decisively.”

Beyond commercial outcomes, Cynthia has positioned sustainability as a core pillar of Jambojet’s strategy. She leads the airline’s Sustainability Programme, with a focus on environmental stewardship and empowering communities through activities in education, aligning aviation growth with social impact, thereby not losing the focus on strong economic performance by this leading budget regional airline. To Cynthia, Sustainability is business strategy, not side projects, as most organizations opine.

This commitment has gained global recognition. In collaboration with partners such as Plastiki Rafiki, Jambojet received the Most Compelling Story Award at The Aviation Challenge 2025 by SkyTeam, highlighting how community-driven circular economy initiatives can deliver both environmental and human value.

Cynthia’s engagement with global aviation sustainability platforms reflects her belief that Africa must play an active role in shaping the future of responsible aviation. “Sustainability works best when it creates real value for communities, not just reports,” she adds.

Cynthia’s leadership is grounded in a strong communications foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a Minor in Marketing and Public Relations from Daystar University, complemented by professional training in digital strategy and brand messaging. She also brings a unique editorial sensibility from her time at Media 7 Group, where she worked on magazine content and digital adoption—experience that informs her clear, authentic brand narratives today.

Outside the boardroom, Cynthia is passionate about mentorship and youth development. She mentors with Young Scientist Kenya, reinforcing her belief that leadership extends beyond corporate success to building future capability and curiosity.
