Njeri Jomo has built an impressive resume over the years as a strategist, helping organisations position themselves for future growth, and is making waves in the insurance sector with her unwavering commitment to excellence. She is an accomplished executive in the insurance industry, renowned for her exceptional leadership and commitment to customer satisfaction.

As Chief Executive and Principal Officer of Jubilee Health Insurance (JHIL), she spearheads the company’s agenda for growth and innovation. JHIL is part of Jubilee Holdings which is the largest insurer in East Africa providing insurance services to over 1.9 million people in the region. It is also the largest provider of medical insurance and has the largest market share of health insurance.

Njeri has had an illustrious career with over two decades of experience as a strategic visionary. Her achievements have garnered industry-wide recognition, including prestigious accolades such as the ‘Top 10 Women in Banking & Finance Africa 2022’, and ‘Top 50 Women in Insurance Africa 2022’ awards. These accolades honour her outstanding contributions and leadership in the field, establishing her as a trailblazer and role model for aspiring professionals.

Njeri holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management; a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from Kenya Methodist University (KeMU); an Associate, Life Management Institute (ALMI) from LL Global USA; a Diploma in Insurance and an Award in Bancassurance certification from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) – London.

Her career journey began in December 2001 when she joined the Kenya Alliance Insurance Company as an Underwriter and Claims Processor. She handled motor, non-motor, and health claims, gaining valuable experience in the insurance domain. In 2003, Njeri took on the role of Service Manager (accident and health) at Midstate Insurance Brokers, a start-up brokerage firm before moving to UAP Insurance Kenya as a Financial Advisor.

Ms Jomo’s most significant move came in 2005 when she joined the Britam Asset Managers, a fund management company within the Britam Group. Later on, she held various leadership roles including Financial Planning Manager, Team Leader – Financial Planning, Head of Financial Advisory, Agency Manager, Head of Investment Linked Products, and Head of Retail Life Products and Digital Sales Project, showcasing her versatility and leadership acumen. Her last role was General Manager (GM), Retail Business Development at Britam Group where she was responsible for driving the growth of the retail product portfolio as well as management of the distribution channels.

Njeri is not only a trailblazer in her career but also an inspiring mentor. She actively participates in various initiatives including the Vice President of Kenya Women in Insurance Association, an organisation which she founded alongside others aimed at promoting the representation, professional development and advancement of women in insurance through empowerment, education, mentorship and collaboration.

Her contributions extend to promoting diversity and women’s representation in leadership positions through her membership in the Women on Boards Network (WOBN) Kenya and The Boardroom Africa.

Njeri also contributes to the Presidential Digital Talent Program as a mentor and thought leader, speaking on various topics including insurance, investment, commercial strategy,  digitisation and many more.
