NYAWIRA MAINA
REGIONAL CORPORATE MANAGER – LITTLE LIMITED
According to Nyawira Maina’s post on LinkedIn, in the fast-evolving landscape of Kenya’s digital economy, few innovations have shifted consumer behaviour as decisively as Little App Kenya. What began as a ride-hailing and lifestyle platform has quietly, but powerfully, transformed how Kenyans access air travel. Here is that story — as told by Nyawira, Corporate Affairs Manager at Little App Kenya.
When we started out, Little was known primarily as a mobility solution. We were the dependable app you opened to get across Nairobi traffic, to send a package, or to pay for everyday services. But we have always believed that mobility is not just about roads. It is about movement — of people, of opportunity, of ambition. Air travel was the next logical frontier.
For years, booking flights in Kenya — especially domestic routes — felt like a formal, almost intimidating process. You either went through a travel agent, navigated airline websites that were not always user-friendly, or physically visited an airline office. For many Kenyans, flying still felt exclusive. So, we asked ourselves a simple question: What if booking a flight could be as easy as ordering a ride?
That thinking has birthed our Flights feature within Little App. By integrating directly with airline systems and trusted aggregators, we are enabling real-time flight search, transparent pricing, and instant confirmation — all within an app millions already had on their phones. There is no longer the need to download a separate flight booking platform.
No need to learn a new interface. The same wallet, the same login, the same seamless design. Today, a customer sitting in Westlands can book a seat to Mombasa in under three minutes. A business traveller in Kisumu can compare fares and departure times instantly. A family planning a holiday does not have to step into a travel agency. This simplicity is not accidental — it is engineered.
First, we focus on accessibility. Kenya is a mobile-first economy. Many users rely on mobile money rather than credit cards. So, we have ensured that flight payments on Little integrate smoothly with M-Pesa and other digital payment systems. That decision alone widens access dramatically.
Second, we have prioritised transparency. Hidden charges have historically discouraged customers. Within the Little ecosystem, what you see is what you pay. Baggage rules, refund conditions, and seat classes are clearly displayed before checkout. This builds trust — and trust is currency in digital platforms.
Third, we understood the power of ecosystem thinking. Little is not a single-service app; it is a lifestyle companion. A customer can book a ride to the airport, secure a discounted airport transfer, reserve a hotel, and now book the flight itself — all within one digital environment. That interconnected experience is what truly differentiates us.
Our partnerships with airlines operating within and beyond Kenya are critical. By working closely with domestic and regional carriers, we are helping them tap into a new demographic — younger, tech-savvy customers who might otherwise delay or avoid booking flights due to perceived complexity.
What excites me most, as Corporate Affairs Manager, is the democratisation effect. When you reduce friction, you expand possibility. We are witnessing first-time flyers book tickets through Little because the process feels familiar and unintimidating.

We have enabled MSMEs to travel more efficiently for business. We have supported diaspora families planning visits home with easier comparison tools and payment flexibility. The data tells a compelling story. Since launching the Flights feature, we are witnessing steady growth in domestic route bookings — particularly Nairobi–Mombasa, Nairobi–Kisumu, and Nairobi–Eldoret.
Seasonal peaks during holidays now reflect strong digital uptake, with customers booking last-minute seats directly from their smartphones.
Beyond numbers, there is something cultural happening. Air travel is no longer seen as distant or elite. It is becoming integrated into everyday Kenyan life — just another service accessible through a smartphone trusted digital platform.
From a corporate perspective, expanding into flight bookings aligns with our long-term strategy of becoming a true “super app” — a one-stop solution for mobility, travel, lifestyle, and financial services. We are building an ecosystem that reflects how modern Africans live and transact.

There is also a broader economic dimension. By streamlining access to flights, Little is supporting tourism, regional trade, and internal connectivity. When it is easier to book a seat, it is easier to close deals, attend conferences, visit family, or explore our beautiful coastline.
And we are not stopping here. We continue to refine the user experience — from smarter search algorithms to personalised travel offers based on customer behaviour. We are exploring loyalty integrations and bundled travel solutions that combine air, ground transport, and accommodation at competitive rates.
At its core, the Flights feature is about empowerment. Technology should not complicate life; it should simplify it. It should remove barriers. It should open doors — or in this case, boarding gates. At Little App Kenya, we believe that the sky is not the limit; it is simply the first destination — one that Kenyans can now book with the tap of a button. And that, to me, is the real story.
